I spent about eight months attempting to make a visual novel, and in doing so learned how Blender worked from basically zero. I'm still not good, mind you, but it's opened up a whole new world of never-having-to-draw-a-background-again, and for that I'm truly thankful.
Moving on from that, I took a short course on the Freestyle tool in order to make lineart out of 3D objects, and I think the results got better and better as time went on! So many parts of Body Count (my comic - you can check it out in the toolbar at the top) would have been a nightmare to make by hand, and it never would have happened if I hadn't sunk time into Blender back in that old, unfinished project. It just goes to show that even the duff projects have their value.
There's nothing quite like getting a real handle on a skill, especially when it folds into so many other use-cases. I can't say I'm 100% proud of everything I rendered in Body Count, but I'm definitely 100% proud of where I got to ❤
